About Us
River Ridge Farm is
situated
to offer you exceptional views of the Clinch River Valley in the
eastern part of Tennessee and
the surrounding Cumberland Mountains to the north and west and (on a
clear
day) the Great Smokey Mountains to the south.
The
Wolfenbarger family
bought 40 acres of a former dairy farm in 1980. On our working
farm we raise beef cattle, chickens for eggs, and a market
garden. Learning about draft horses and working them has been a
part of our lives since 1997. We use our horses to work our
market garden, rake
hay, light logging, gather firewood, feed our livestock in winter and
for trail rides and wagon rides.
Our
Belgian
team we purchased in 1999 when they were 2 years old. Bill and
Nell are half brother and sister.
Lady,
another
Belgian mare, was 10 years old in 2009 when she became part of our
workforce.
Amber is a Tennessee Walker-Appaloosa cross mare that was 9
years old when she came to our farm in 2002.
Our branch of the Wolfenbarger
family has been at home in East Tennessee for over a hundred and fifty
years. My father's place in adjoining Union County has been in
the family for over 100 years and is listed as one of the participants
in the Century
Farm program.

Sharing what we have learnedWe also travel to
schools to share what
we have learned and experienced about
our East Tennessee heritage and host educational opportunities for non
profit organizations on our farm.
We take horses, old tools and farming implements and share how they
worked together to enable our forefathers to raise crops to feed their
families and to sell for cash to buy things they could not grow, find
on the land, or make.
